Cushion Cut Diamond Engagement Rings
Cushion cut diamond engagement rings have become an increasingly popular choice over the last few years. They are now a common sight on some of the country’s most popular celebrities. They are thought of as being a softer and therefore more romantic version of a square or rectangular cut diamond. The edges of the stone appear to be more rounded hence the name cushion.
A typical cushion-cut diamond would have around sixty facets, a number which was popular in a bygone age as it would allow the face to sparkle magnificently in low level light, specifically that given off by candles. Fast forward to today and we see that most diamonds would have a larger number of facets which is thought to give a greater elegance.
All cushion-cut diamonds should be virtually free of any inclusions and need to have a good color as otherwise the piece can look dull. Usually a higher number of facets adds more of a value and as cushion cut stones have less facets the stone’s quality needs to make up for this aspect. If there are any inclusions in the diamonds they would be easier to spot if the stone is cushion cut.
The popularity of these diamonds first came about nearly two hundred years ago. You can still find antique pieces in selected specialist stores but these cost a small fortune to purchase today. They would traditionally have names such as pillow or candlelight diamonds.
